The second pre-summit program on disaster management was organized by Uttarakhand State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST) at the World Trade Center, Mumbai on 22nd March 2025. The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp in the august presence of Ganesh Naik, Minister of Forest and Environment, Government of Maharashtra and Professor Durgesh Pant, Director General, UCOST. During the program, Ganesh Naik, Minister of Forest and Environment, Maharashtra congratulated Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on the success of three years of the state government and praised the development work done by the Uttarakhand government. He said that the purity of the water of Maa Ganga originating from Uttarakhand still preserves the culture of Sanatan Dharma. Apart from this, he also praised the prompt and helpful efforts made during disasters across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Minister Naik also said that Prime Minister Modi always stands with every state government in times of disaster with body, mind and money and his contribution in this direction is commendable. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, through his video message, sent his best wishes for the pre-conference and congratulated all the organizers including UCOST for organizing a workshop on this important topic.
In this program, UCOST Director General Professor Durgesh Pant expressed his gratitude to Maharashtra Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Naik. He said that the main objective of organizing this pre-summit based on disaster management in Mumbai is to work with scientific and technical cooperation with disaster-affected states. Professor Pant appreciated the efforts made by the state government for disaster management under the leadership of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami and also told that disasters keep occurring every year in Uttarakhand, to deal with which the state government is already working continuously.
In the program, scientists from central government institutions and academic institutions across the country shared their views and experiences on various aspects of disaster management in different sessions of the program. Many prominent institutions including Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Strategic Venue, Vitraya, World Trade Center Mumbai played an important role in this conference.
This conference based on disaster management has proved to be an important step to promote a solid scientific and technical approach to deal with disaster not only in Uttarakhand but in the entire country.
Program coordinator Prahlad Adhikari and media coordinator Amit Pokhriyal, Manager Public Relations, UCOST said that in a state like Uttarakhand where disaster related problems persist, organizing such conferences will definitely give good suggestions after brainstorming which will be helpful in disaster management.
