    Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology is an autonomous body of the Government of Uttarakhand, Department of Information Technology, Good Governance and Science & Technology. UCOST started its activities from last quarter of year 2005, However it was registered under the Registration of Societies Act, 1860 in November 2002. Its activities include supporting research and development projects, strengthening laboratories, conserving the environment, enabling technology-driven science education and conducting societal outreach programs.

    Key Functions of UCOST

    Promotion of Scientific Research

    • Encouraging research and innovation in fields like biotechnology, environmental sciences, and physical sciences.
    • Funding and supporting scientific institutions, universities, and research centers.

    Technology Development & Innovation

    • Promoting sustainable technologies for agriculture, water conservation, and disaster management.
    • Supporting startups and entrepreneurs in the field of science and technology.

    Science Popularization & Awareness

    • Organizing science exhibitions, workshops, and training programs for students, researchers, and the general public.
    • Conducting initiatives like Vigyan Mela, Science Congress, Children Science Congress, Seemant Baal Vigyan Mahotsav, STEM Education and school-level competitions to inspire young minds.

    Disaster Management & Climate Research

    • Collaborating with scientific and environmental organizations for policy-making.

    Key Projects & Initiatives

    • Regional Science Center, Dehradun – A facility dedicated to promoting science education.
    • Technology Incubation Center – Supporting startups and research in cutting-edge technology.
    • Research on Himalayan Ecosystem – Studying biodiversity, medicinal plants, and sustainable development in the region.
    • Science Communication Initiatives – Encouraging STEM education through various outreach programs.
