    Uttarakhand Space Application Centre (USAC) is the nodal agency in Uttarakhand state for space technology related activities and has the mandate to employ space technology for the benefit of the state and its people. It was constituted as an autonomous organization in 2005, under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Uttarakhand.

     

    Key Functions of USAC:

    1. Remote Sensing Applications
      • Mapping, monitoring and conservation of natural resources (forest, water, agriculture, land use etc.) using satellite, UAV and drone based observations.
      • Generation of digital libraries of natural resources in the form of thematic layers at different scales.
    2. Geographical Information System (GIS) Applications
      • Generation of the geodatabase for different facets and to develop integrated GIS based decision support system.
      • Utilization of the Geospatial technology for good governance.
    3. Disaster Management and Climate Change Studies
      • Utilization of satellite and space based information to mitigate during the natural disaster.
      • Conducting the studies on the impact of climate change on natural resources, including water & glacial resources, biodiversity and environmental conservation.
    4. Urban and Rural Planning
      • Assisting in master planning, urban planning, and smart city planning using the geospatial technology.
      • Support the Rural developments projects using GIS and GPS based applications.
    5. Training, Capacity Building and Research
      • Providing training to officials, students and researchers in the domain of space applications
      • Promotion of use of Geospatial technology using training and capacity building.
      • Research in the area of space applications and climate change studies.
