The Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP), initiated by the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), aims to harness the power of science and technology to promote livelihood opportunities and entrepreneurship in the state. A key focus of the program is the sustainable utilization of locally available natural resources. By interpreting and applying scientific knowledge to these resources, UCOST supports the development of innovative and value-added products that can be marketed effectively, thereby empowering local communities and promoting economic growth.
One of the main objectives of the program is to support the establishment of Technology Resource Centres (TRCs) that serve as hubs of innovation and training. UCOST provides funding assistance to NGOs, academic institutions, and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to set up these centers. These TRCs facilitate hands-on training, product development, and capacity-building in rural and semi-urban areas. By integrating scientific methods with traditional knowledge, the program helps communities transition from resource-based livelihoods to skill-based and enterprise-driven models.
By nurturing local talent and encouraging innovation, UCOST’s EDP initiative plays a vital role in fostering inclusive and sustainable development across Uttarakhand.
