    • Start Date : 15/04/2025
    • End Date : 19/04/2025
    • Venue : Pt. Lalit Mohan Sharma Campus, Rishikesh

On April 15, 2025, a five-day hands-on training workshop on “Plant Tissue Culture Technology” commenced at the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory established by the Uttarakhand Science Education and Research Centre (USERC) at the Pt. Lalit Mohan Sharma Campus, Rishikesh. The workshop will be held from April 15 to 19, 2025.

The chief guest, USERC Director Prof. (Dr.) Anita Rawat, stated that this is the 72nd workshop organized by USERC’s Entrepreneurship Development Centre, with the objective of promoting science education. Through such workshops, students from mountainous regions are continuously provided with hands-on training in laboratories. Additionally, at the school level, students are being encouraged towards science education. Workshops like this one on plant tissue culture technology can inspire participants toward entrepreneurship, enabling them to generate income and become self-reliant. This field holds numerous employment opportunities.

On this occasion, Campus Director Prof. Mahavir Singh Rawat expressed his gratitude to USERC for organizing such collaborative events and stated that these workshops are highly beneficial.

Dean of the Faculty of Science at the Rishikesh campus and workshop coordinator, Prof. Gulshan Kumar Dhingra, welcomed all guests and participants, stating that this program is being held in the plant tissue culture laboratory established under the “Harit Peeth” initiative by USERC at their campus.

In this workshop, subject expert Dr. Manish Dev Sharma explained the techniques of plant tissue culture in detail to the participants and emphasized its potential in entrepreneurship. Using plant tissue culture technology, commercial production of plants such as flowers, vegetables, and fruits can be achieved. This technique can also be used to develop new plant varieties that are more productive, disease-resistant, and tolerant to climate change.

Students from Government Post Graduate College, Uttarkashi; Government College, Berinag; Post Graduate College, Dhanori; Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar; and Pt. Lalit Mohan Campus, Rishikesh, are participating in this workshop—a total of 20 students.
