Inauguration of Five-Day Hands-On Training on Bioinformatics for Genomic Analysis 2.0 under the First “USERC Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics” in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, Established by USERC
On March 24, 2025, the Uttarakhand Science Education and Research Center (USERC), in collaboration with Devbhoomi Uttarakhand University, launched a five-day “Hands-On Training on Bioinformatics for Genomic Analysis 2.0” program for higher education students at the university campus.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration, USERC Director Professor (Dr.) Anita Rawat stated that USERC had previously established Uttarakhand’s first “USERC Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics” at Devbhoomi Uttarakhand University campus, under which this second training program is now being conducted for students. Professor Rawat emphasized that such programs help students and researchers develop proficiency in advanced bioinformatics technologies. She highlighted that bioinformatics is not only the future of life sciences and biotechnology but also holds the potential to revolutionize medical research, drug development, and personalized genomic medicine.
Bioinformatics and genomic analysis play a crucial role in improving human health, drug development, and agriculture. Recognizing its significance, USERC has organized this five-day hands-on training program to promote experiential learning among students.
Professor Rawat remarked that bioinformatics is an extensive field that offers students valuable career opportunities and fosters innovation. She noted that USERC has provided students with the chance to delve into the intricacies of bioinformatics and assured that similar training programs will continue to be organized through this center in the future.
She further mentioned that 25 students from various universities and higher education institutions across the state are participating in this program, including students from Shri Dev Suman University’s Rishikesh campus, Government Degree College Doiwala, and Devbhoomi Uttarakhand University.
On this occasion, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Preeti Kothiyal, praised the five-day program organized by USERC as highly significant. The event was also attended by Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Ritika Mehra, Registrar General O.P. Soni, Dean of Research and Innovation Dr. Navil Ahmed, Dr. Nirjara Singhvi, and over 50 faculty members and guests.
