Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) play a vital role in securing advantageous position in the competitive technological game of economic growth. The footprints of Science & Technology are marked by Intellectual Property Rights, which reflect the core technological strengths of a country. Maintaining a competitive edge and enhancing the market position are the impacts of IPR.
With the advent of new economic policy, India has become a part of the multilateral system of trade. Consequently, scientists and policy makers need more information, orientation and facilities for protecting the products of intellectual prowess of Indian Scientists.
A step in this direction was taken by establishing a Patent Information Centre (PIC) in the state of Uttarakhand at the Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST), Dehradun with technical and financial support from Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, New Delhi.
The PIC has been established as a single window IPR facilitation Cell with an aim of providing specialist services supporting all aspects of Intellectual Property Rights. The Centre principally aims to achieve following objective i.e. to create awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) specially patents, in the state of Uttarakhand and neighboring region of this Centre and enable patent searches using modern search software for the universities, industries, government department and R&D institutions in the state of Uttarakhand and around.
PIC Currently filed 1061 Patents, 50 trademark, 35 Industrial design and 01 Geographical Inception since its inception. Further, PIC established 38 Patent center across the state.
